Preadmission Screening and Resident Review (PASRR) is an assessment that helps decide if a nursing home is the best placement for a person with a behavioral, intellectual, or developmental disability. PASRR asks:
- Does the person have a behavioral, intellectual, or developmental disability?
- What setting would best meet the person's needs? This may be in the community, in a nursing facility, or in a hospital.
- What disability related services are needed by the person?
Screening for PASRR is federally required for everyone who is admitted to nursing homes certified by the Medicaid program—even for persons who do not receive Medicaid benefits.
